Class 150

The Class 150 is a member of the sprinter family of units.

Featuring (at the time) revolutionary technology compared to that of the First Generation DMUs, they included automatic transmissions, power doors and in some prototype models, Air Conditioning.

Built between 1984 and 1987 at York Carriage Works for British Rail’s Regional Railways sector
All 150s are 2-3 cars long with a top speed of 75 miles per hour making them more suited to branch lines as opposed to trunk routes.

The initial 2 units 150 001 and 002 were prototypes in of themselves. 001 featuring a unique cab and 002 featuring unique Rolls Royce Engines as opposed to the standard Cummins engines.

the 150/0s initially consisted of solely 001 and 002 however with the class being chopped and changed during the privatisation era, Northern in particular have started putting extra coaches into 150/1 units making them into /0s.

the 150/1s are 2 car units with no end gangway doors.

the 150/2s are 2 car units with end gangway doors.
